Vaglio is a personal blog, run by one person. I compare software and AI tools in detail — especially on price — and sift out the few that are genuinely worth your time and money.
What "Vaglio" means
The name Vaglio comes from Latin — from vallus, the root behind vagliare: to sift, to winnow, to weigh and assess before judging. A vaglio is a sieve, the tool that separates what matters from what doesn't: grain from chaff, signal from noise, the gem from the rock.
That's the whole idea behind this site. There are more tools, apps, and services than anyone could reasonably try, and most "best of" lists read like they were assembled from press releases. My job is to do the sifting — carefully and out loud — so you don't have to.
How I work
I start from the decision you're actually trying to make, not from a feature list. For every comparison I:
- Draw on firsthand experience where I have it— I've used many of these tools while running a small team — and research the rest carefully across pricing pages, documentation, and verified user reviews.
- Compare against clear, stated criteria, so you can see why one option wins for a given use case — and where it loses.
- Check pricing and plan details at the time of writing, and flag the parts that tend to change.
- Say plainly when something isn't worth it, or when the cheaper option is the smarter buy.
I'd rather recommend nothing than recommend something I can't stand behind.

Who's behind Vaglio
Vaglio is written and edited by one person. By day I work at a nonprofit in Korea, where a big part of the job has been trying out software and AI tools and then having to compare and choose between them — almost always with cost front of mind, because every dollar a nonprofit spends is a dollar taken from the mission. After doing that sifting over and over, I started this site to share what I'd learned with people in the same position: anyone who has to weigh every subscription and wants an honest, side-by-side account of what's actually worth paying for. The habit behind the site is simple: look closely, compare honestly, and respect the reader's money the way I have to respect my own.
Where Vaglio is headed
Vaglio starts with software and AI tools, because that's where clear, honest comparison is hardest to find. Over time, the same method — compare in detail, sift out what's worth it — extends to other decisions where good information is scarce and the stakes are real, including personal finance and travel. The subject changes; the standard doesn't.
